Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity, and UNFPA to expand programs to support victims of violence and train social workers
Denys Uliutin, Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, met with Jacqueline Mahon, UNFPA (United Nations Polpulation Fund) Resident Representative in Ukraine.
Denys Uliutin thanked the partners for their consistent support of Ukraine in combating and preventing gender-based violence and ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women.
The parties discussed key areas of cooperation, in particular the implementation of amendments to Law No. 4067, which defines mechanisms for the legal and social protection of victims of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). UNFPA is also continuing to provide support services for victims of CGSV and gender-based violence.
“It is extremely important for us that the law works effectively, with clear procedures for recognizing the status of victims and systematic support. We already have a package of regulatory documents in place for this,” said Denys Uliutin.
The discussion also focused on the implementation of the demographic strategy, which is one of the key areas of state policy in the field of human capital development.
“Demographic strategy is not only a matter of social policy, but also of the country's economic development. It is about supporting families and creating conditions for the birth and upbringing of children, creating conditions for active longevity, and ensuring equal opportunities for women and men,” the Minister emphasized.
The parties also considered the possibility of introducing case management in cases of violence, strengthening assistance in transit centers, and expanding the training program for social workers, which is currently operating within the Higher School of Public Administration.
“UNFPA remains committed to supporting the Government, the Ministry, and the people of Ukraine, both in providing emergency humanitarian assistance and in promoting recovery and reconstruction, so that people in Ukraine can see and feel real change for the better,” said Jacqueline Mahon, Resident Representative of UNFPA in Ukraine.
Concluding the meeting, the parties agreed to continue coordinating efforts within existing joint programs and to expand their partnership for the effective implementation of reforms in the social sphere.
