Ministry for Communities and Territories Development: Borodianka begins testing 5G technology

Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, posted 28 January 2026 14:49

Today, 28 January, as part of a pilot project to test high-speed 5G connectivity, a trial launch of this technology began in Borodianka (Kyiv region). The pilot is to run until at least December 2026.

Borodianka became the second settlement in Ukraine, after Lviv, where 5G base stations were installed.

"The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development initiated the inclusion of Borodianka in the network of settlements where 5G will be tested, because for the village, this is more than just a technological upgrade. We are working on a comprehensive restoration, where it is not just reconstruction that is taking place, but a significant improvement in the quality of life. Energy-efficient solutions are being implemented, inclusive spaces are being created, and people are being provided with access to a full range of services, including digital ones," emphasised Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Oleksii Kuleba.

It should be recalled that the Government approved the 5G Development Plan back in November 2020, but due to the full-scale invasion, the full launch of the technology was postponed. In 2025, the project was resumed and is currently in the pilot phase, as the full launch of 5G is only possible after the end of martial law.

After obtaining the necessary permits from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and successfully conducting tests, the pilot has already been launched in Lviv and Borodianka. In the future, it is planned to scale it up in Kharkiv, Kyiv, and Odesa.

Despite the full-scale war, the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities continues, and Borodianka is an example of a comprehensive approach to reconstruction, where a settlement that has suffered extensive damage is being restored and improved, while people are returning to their homes.
