Ukrainian communities have been given the right to manage their land resources, so they now face ambitious challenges in this area and new requirements for territory planning at the local level. This was emphasized by Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development Viacheslav Nehoda.
"If earlier the community used to manage the territory that was within the boundaries of the settlements, presently decentralization has significantly expanded the horizons of its management. Water, forest resources, and agricultural lands are now owned by communities. The objective is not only to conduct an inventory of such resources and their evaluation but also to develop comprehensive spatial development plans. This is the only way to effectively manage this strategic resource. And communities need help in these issues," Viacheslav Nehoda said.
Thus, within the framework of the project "Support of communities in land management", which is implemented by the public union "Ukrgeo", there are planned training and consultations, studying the experience of best practices in land management, developing proposals for solving land issues at the national level.
It should be noted this project will help communities in all regions of Ukraine to implement modern land management tools. The beneficiaries of the project will be, first of all, territorial communities, their heads and land managers. It is planned to cover at least 800 territorial communities.
It should be noted, earlier the Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Chernyshov stressed that the President of Ukraine had signed a crucial law that enables communities to exercise effective land management.
