Ministry of Defence joins development of NATO Science and Technology Strategy for the first time
Experts from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence system are participating in the development of a new NATO Science and Technology Strategy for the first time. This opportunity arose due to Ukraine’s privileged membership in NATO’s Science and Technology Organisation (STO).
The Science and Technology Strategy is a foundational document that outlines the Alliance’s tasks, objectives, and implementation mechanisms in this field, as well as the policies to be pursued by the NATO Science and Technology Board over the next six years.
Ukrainian specialists are working closely with STO representatives on the document.
“The involvement of our experts demonstrates the trust and interest of our partners in closer cooperation with scientists from the MoD system in the field of defence research and development. Consolidated efforts and proper coordination will help achieve progress in implementing NATO’s Science and Technology Strategy,” said Volodymyr Mirnenko, Director of the Department of Military Education and Science.
He noted that building a shared scientific knowledge base and engaging in scientific diplomacy would support Euro-integration processes and enhance interoperability with the Alliance. Additionally, this will bolster Ukraine’s defence capabilities through joint scientific achievements and technological innovations.
The STO is a NATO subsidiary body that supports the Alliance and its partner nations by generating and disseminating advanced scientific knowledge, technological developments, and innovations.
