Minister of Education and Science and UNICEF Representative in Ukraine discuss areas of further cooperation
On February 14, 2023, Minister of Education and Science Serhii Shkarlet met with UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Murat Sahin.
The parties addressed the issues of ensuring the mental health of participants in the educational process, the publication and printing of textbooks, and the functioning and development of the network of Ukrainian educational hubs.
The Minister informed Mr. Murat Sahin that the educational hubs are located in the EU countries and in the western regions of Ukraine, where the majority of students and internally displaced persons are staying.
The results of the educational hubs' activities from April 2022 to January 2023:
- over 1,000 children caught up with their studies;
- more than 4,000 people have completed the Skills for Successful Living program (10,000 students will have completed the program by the end of October 2023);
- almost 1,500 people received psychosocial support;
- more than 25,000 educators took a retraining course in first aid;
- almost 21,500 students took career guidance tests;
- almost 1,500 people took advanced training courses in working professions (mostly internally displaced persons);
- over 1,000 people attended conversation clubs and received training in Ukrainian, English and Polish;
- almost 5,500 people completed IT courses.
Now there is a question of providing education for the communities most affected by the military aggression of the russian federation, in particular those where educational institutions have been destroyed.
"First of all, children need to catch up on their studies, as well as provide "Lessons for a Successful Life" containing the most necessary skills for young people, which will allow us to raise a new generation of Ukrainians as change-makers. Such a project, with the support of UNICEF-Poland, is being successfully piloted on the basis of an educational hub in Poland, and we are also working to ensure that such hubs are established in all regions of Ukraine," said Serhii Shkarlet.
The Minister thanked Mr. Murat Sahin for his comprehensive support of the education sector and expressed hope for further cooperation and support in publishing textbooks for Ukrainian students.
It should be noted, more than 6,000 laptops and sports equipment have been donated to educational institutions in Odesa region.
