Turkey is an important strategic partner of Ukraine in the energy sector, emphasized Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Güldere, on February 15, 2023.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including the use of Turkish floating power plants to supply electricity to Ukraine.
German Galushchenko emphasized that Turkey as a major strategic partner poses interest for Ukraine in strengthening further cooperation. This is especially true given the threats to regional energy security caused by russia's military aggression.
"Floating power plants are an opportunity to provide generation to a certain region, it is one of the elements of decentralization of the energy system. This is especially important when russia continues to attack our energy facilities on a daily basis," said German Galushchenko.
The Ukrainian and Turkish sides agreed to continue negotiations on this issue, paying special attention to the safety of floating power plants and their locations.
German Galushchenko expressed his condolences to Mr. Ambassador in connection with the tragedy - an earthquake that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Turkish citizens.
The Minister thanked for the assistance provided by the Turkish side to the Ukrainian energy sector. In particular, in December 2022, through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, Kharkiv and Kherson received 180 generators as humanitarian aid.
