Ministry of Energy initiates strengthened state oversight of electricity market to ensure supply security

The Cabinet of Ministers has supported a draft law amending the Law of Ukraine “On the Electricity Market,” aimed at enhancing the reliability of electricity supply for consumers.

Further approval of the draft law by Parliament will bolster the state’s institutional capacity, enabling effective monitoring and reducing the risks of electricity supply shortages, which annually cause millions in economic losses.

The document proposes:

• Strengthening the accountability of electricity market participants for adhering to equipment repair and modernisation schedules, maintaining necessary fuel reserves, and other measures critical to ensuring the country’s energy security;
• Improving oversight of the actions of transmission and distribution system operators when implementing mandatory measures to restrict electricity consumption.

The Ministry of Energy emphasises that the goal is to guarantee stable and secure electricity supply for every consumer. This draft law enhances the state’s ability to monitor the technical condition of energy infrastructure, respond effectively to risks, and prevent outages. It represents a vital step towards ensuring the country’s energy security and sustainable economic development.
