Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources: Finland remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in environmental protection

Svitlana Grynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, congratulated Sari Multala, the new Minister of Climate and the Environment of Finland, on her appointment. During their first online meeting, Svitlana Grynchuk and Sari Multala discussed the continuation of cooperation between the both ministries, as well as the expansion of partnership in various areas.

“Today, the key area of cooperation between our ministries is Point 8 of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula on environmental safety, under which we are developing materials to hold russia accountable for environmental destruction during hostilities,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.

According to her, Finland, together with Germany and Bulgaria, co-chairs the working group on the implementation of the Point 8. In October, Finland successfully hosted a conference in Helsinki on russia’s responsibility for its armed aggression against Ukraine and crimes against the environment.

“Finland is already helping us move towards green recovery using European environmental practices. Today, we are jointly implementing an initiative in the field of atmospheric air monitoring (UFAIR), preparing to launch a project on environmental damage assessment and development of water quality and biodiversity monitoring. Sari Multala assured us that our cooperation will continue in all relevant areas. We are planning our further actions at the technical level,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.

She thanked Finland for productive cooperation and significant expert and financial support for Ukraine’s environmental protection and expressed hope for an offline meeting as soon as possible.
