  • EUR 400,000 to be allocated to study damage to Arch NSC in Chornobyl: Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources

EUR 400,000 will be allocated from the administrative budget of the International Chornobyl Cooperation Account (ICCA) to investigate the damage to the Arch NSC.

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk announced this on her Facebook page.

During an extraordinary meeting of the Assembly of the International Chornobyl Cooperation Account, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAEZ), it was decided to allocate EUR 400,000 from the administrative budget.

"This is the first step in our cooperation with partners to restore the Arch NSC to normal operation after the russian attack on 14 February. The funds will be used for an expert assessment of the consequences of the russian UAV hitting the protective shielding of the Arch," said Svitlana Grynchuk.

According to her, during the meeting with the partners, they discussed the preliminary results of the damage assessment and further steps to restore the functioning of the Arch NSC: "Today the main thing is to conduct a qualitative analysis and unite our donors for further development. Restoring the functioning of the property is a huge challenge. There is a possibility that eliminating the consequences of russian aggression will require more funds than are currently available in the International Chornobyl Cooperation Account."

We thank the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, all contributing countries, the IAEA and other representatives of the international community for their response and attention to the situation.
