The 70th session of the Regional Committee for Europe of the World Health Organization has begun today. Throughout two days, health ministers and senior officials of 53 WHO member states in the European region, as well as representatives of partner organizations and civil society, are to tackle health issues. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Minister of Health Maxym Stepanov.
"Participation in the event demonstrates the consistency of our state's policy to strengthen the role of WHO in the development of healthcare in Ukraine, as well as will contribute to better effectiveness of Ukraine's cooperation with WHO in support of priority areas of the process of reforming the healthcare sector and fight against the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID- 19) ", said Maxym Stepanov.
This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the session will be held online in a shortened format.
The session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe will consider the new European Programme of Work 2020–2025 “United action for better health”, as well as present international experience in combating coronavirus outbreaks (COVID - 19).
