  • The plane which will bring Ukrainians home will depart at 2:50 a.m.

    Today, February 18, Ukraine received permission to fly from Wuhan (China) to bring Ukrainians home. According to the received permit, the special flight will depart from Kyiv at 2:50 a.m. on 19 February. The plane will return to Ukraine on February 20 at 8 a.m.

    This was announced at a joint briefing by Minister of Health Zoriana Skaletska, First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Dmytro Abramovich, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andriy Zayats, Head of the State Emergency Service Mykola Chechyotkin and the General Director of the SkyUp Airlines Evgeniy Hainatsky on evacuating people from China because of the spread of a new coronavirus and observing measures.

    “We are completely ready for the evacuation of the citizens and sending the plane to Wuhan. A team flying to a Chinese province underwent training. They will be able to provide assistance according to established epidemic safety rules,” the Health Minister stressed.

    Zoriana Skaletska accentuated that only healthy citizens, who will be checked by Chinese and Ukrainian medical workers, will be allowed to board the plane. In addition, qualified doctors will be available to provide medical assistance if necessary. In addition, each passenger who will be evacuated by a Ukrainian aircraft will sign an informed voluntary consent to the observation before boarding and health monitoring, diagnosis and treatment. In case of refusal, people will not be evacuated.

    The Minister of Health also informed that the location to which the special flight will return, as well as the objects of observation will be shortly selected immediately before the arrival and accomodation.

    At present, experts are considering four variants of objects in different regions of Ukraine.

    The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that 49 Ukrainians and up to 25 foreigners (citizens of Israel, Norway, Montenegro, Argentina, Panama, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Spain) will be evacuated to Ukraine. "Foreign citizens will be evacuated in accordance with the norms of international cooperation and will be monitored together with Ukrainians, and later will return home," Andriy Zayats said.

    In turn, the Head of the State Emergency Service stressed that all law enforcement agencies, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Police, the National Guard, State Emergency Service are ready to perform their tasks on purpose, starting with a meeting, accompanying, and ensuring security of the place of the observation. "An operational headquarters will be deployed in the area, which will coordinate the activities of all bodies involved in observational activities," Mykola Chechyotkin underscored.
