Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 23 June 2023 20:55

At the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London, the members of the G7+ Ukraine Energy Coordination Group and the Government of Ukraine committed to a Clean Energy Partnership for the sustainable recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy system.

The parties acknowledged that G7+ partners had made concerted efforts to support Ukraine’s energy system by providing significant emergency assistance to mitigate the effects of russia’s attacks. The G7+ has also provided support through emergency finance, partnered with international organisations and called on the private sector to help.

“We will continue to support Ukraine as it focuses on maintaining and stabilising its energy system and preparing for next winter,” the statement says.

The G7+ Ukraine Energy Coordination Group was established in November 2022 on the initiative of Ukraine’s Energy Minister German Galushchenko and with the support of partners to coordinate and mobilise donors to help Ukraine repair, restore and defend its energy infrastructure. Members of this group are: Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States and the European Union, Energy Community Secretariat, World Bank Group, EBRD, UNDP.

“Last winter, when russia shelled Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, our partners showed unity, cohesion and a sincere desire to help Ukraine. Thanks to this support, as well as the courage and professionalism of Ukraine’s power engineers, our energy system survived. I am grateful to all the members of the Coordination Group for their timely and strong support, which enabled us to overcome the challenges,” said German Galushchenko.

The Minister expressed the hope that further cooperation would contribute to the restoration and reconstruction of the Ukrainian energy system.

The G7+ also commits to supporting Ukraine’s goal of building a more modern, secure, decentralised, and cleaner energy system fit for a Net Zero future and with greater integration with Europe.

The statement also reiterates the commitment to strengthening coordination of the G7+ group’s diplomatic, development and trade efforts to maximise investment in support of Ukraine’s Energy Strategy to 2050, the forthcoming National Energy and Climate Plan and Ukraine’s National Recovery priorities.
