Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze and Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valery Chaly held a meeting with Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson in Washington, DC.

The parties discussed the results of the recent NATO Foreign Ministers meeting, welcoming the decision of western countries to strengthen NATO presence in the Black Sea area to contain Russia's aggression and strengthen support for Ukraine and Georgia.

Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze expressed gratitude to the American party for the permanent security assistance provided to Ukraine, in particular, in the direction of strengthening the Ukrainian fleet. She emphasized on Ukraine's readiness to start purchasing American defense goods and to continue reforming the security and defense sector, including in the context of the practical implementation of the provisions of the Law on National Security.

Andrea Thompson highly assessed the steps taken by Ukraine to reform the defense sector. She welcomed the adoption in late January of the law on direct purchases by state defense customers of imported military products, which fundamentally changes the system of procurement of weapons and military equipment (Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine concerning the Procurement of Imported Products, Works and Services for Military Purposes."- ed.).

The American party stressed that it is monitoring the situation with the threats Ukraine is suffering from in cyberspace, especially during the election period, and confirmed the importance of a joint response to it. "It is impossible to confine cyber threats to geographical boundaries, the effects of cyber attacks are felt all over the world, and we are ready to work together to prevent them", said Andrea Thompson.

Moreover, she emphasized the importance of aligning Ukrainian legislation in the field of mine clearing in order to enable donor states to finance relevant activities directly avoiding intermediate structures.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Ambassador invited the Under Secretary to pay a working visit to Ukraine.
