  • Cabinet of Ministers amends resolutions on media and justice authorities
    Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, posted 26 June 2023 13:04

    The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has amended a number of regulations to bring them in line with the Law "On Media". This is required for the proper implementation of the Law.

    In addition, in order to reduce the number of regulatory acts to a minimum, certain issues of apostillation of official documents intended for use in foreign countries were regulated. This is due to the fact that interregional departments for the execution of criminal sentences and authorised probation authorities of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine are not empowered to issue official documents subject to apostillation.

    The Government also introduced the following amendments to the Regulation on the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine:

    • clarified the powers of the Ministry of Justice to ensure Ukraine's representation in the European Court of Human Rights in cases of violation of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, in particular, to protect the interests of the state in interstate cases brought against the russian federation;
    • designated the Ministry of Justice as the body responsible, inter alia, for coordinating the execution of judgments of the European Court, as provided for by the Law of Ukraine "On the Execution of Judgments and Application of the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights" and Resolution No. 784;
    • unified terminology for the Ministry of Justice's legal expertise of draft legislation and regulations subject to state registration in terms of assessing compliance with the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights;
    • optimised the activities of the Commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights.
