Russia is trying to use the captured Ukrainian sailors as a tool to influence presidential elections in Ukraine, that is why Russia is unlikely to free our personnel before the elections. This was announced by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze during an open meeting at Veteran Hub.

"I do not think that Kremlin will release our sailors before presidential elections. Russia is trying to use even the human fates on our electoral field, showing that it is expecting to essentially change the course of the country and is ready to work only with someone else, and not with the current President, trying to discredit him, while supporting others. I would like our citizens to understand that this serious Russian game is aimed at destroying our state," the Vice Prime Minister stressed.

According to her,  a whole civilized world has a clear understanding that the attack on Ukrainian ships in the Black Sea was not provoked by Ukraine. Moreover, the attack occurred in neutral waters. In its turn, the Ukrainian side now uses all possible instruments of negotiations on the international arena for exerting maximum pressure on the Russian Federation.
