Ministry of Energy: Italy and UNEP consolidate efforts to strengthen energy resilience of Ukrainian cities

Italy has signed an agreement with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to allocate more than EUR 2 million for a project aimed at strengthening the energy resilience of Ukrainian cities.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Roman Andarak, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, by Carlo Formosa, Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, and Pier Carlo, UNEP Senior Programme Officer in Ukraine.

“We are grateful to our partners from UNEP and Italy for this initiative, which will not only increase the energy independence of individual communities, but also strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system as a whole. Restoration of the Ukrainian energy sector based on the principles of green transition and development of renewable energy sources remains one of our key priorities,” said Roman Andarak.

The project will provide a detailed analysis of opportunities for integrating renewable energy sources into Ukraine’s energy system, focusing on assessing solar photovoltaic potential and the possibility of developing microgrids to strengthen the energy autonomy of cities.

It will explore advanced technological tools to improve energy efficiency and reduce consumption in order to create a model for more sustainable urban energy planning.

One of the project’s main activities is training and technology transfer involving Italian and Ukrainian experts to develop local competencies in sustainable energy management.
