The year 2024 was the most difficult for the Ukrainian power system, as it was marked by constant hostile attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. This was stated by the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko in an interview with a TV channel.
“Power engineers work around the clock. The fact that the power system is holding up today, that it is integral and stable and provides both electricity and heat to consumers is a great merit of each individual power engineer,” the Minister stressed.
According to him, russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in 2022-2023 began in October. This year, the enemy launched massive attacks much earlier – in March, and they continued throughout the year. “The destruction was very large, much larger than in previous years. The very nature of the attacks, the complexity of the attacks, the weapons used have changed. This is indeed the most difficult year for the power system,” he stressed.
The Minister emphasised that the enemy had changed its attack tactics and was now using drones every night, and that in massive attacks all kinds of missiles would be used along with the drones. In total, russia has carried out 13 massive attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector this year.
Due to the intensity of russian shelling, this year’s repair campaign at energy facilities has become the largest in years. Equipment provided by international partners or purchased with donor funds is being used to carry out repair and restoration work.
