  • German Galushchenko: russians have the illusion that they control the situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP. Yet it is deteriorating day by day
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 11 January 2024 19:20

The russians have the illusion that they control the situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP. However, it is deteriorating every day. This was stated by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko at a media briefing during his working visit to Zaporizhzhia region.

The Minister of Energy stressed that the deterioration of the situation at the occupied facility was confirmed, in particular, by the IAEA experts, who are currently at ZNPP.

"Recently, the IAEA made a statement that inspectors were not allowed to enter the reactor halls. This means that the russians conceal the real picture. We know it: it is equipment degradation. The plant has been out of service since September 2022, and the complex equipment at the plant must be in constant operation. However, no work is being done to maintain it, and this leads to degradation," explained German Galushchenko.

The Minister stressed that the rosatom representatives who were staying at the occupied facility were criminals under international law and would be held accountable for this.

"They have the illusion that they control the situation at the plant in terms of nuclear and radiation safety. But, unfortunately, the situation is deteriorating with every day of their presence," the Minister of Energy stressed.

German Galushchenko noted that after the de-occupation, a huge amount of work would have to be done to bring at least one of the six ZNPP units back into operation.
