Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Ukraine Gaël Veyssière.
The Energy Minister thanked the French side for supporting Ukraine's energy sector, which, in particular, helped to pass the previous heating season. Ukraine has received 31 humanitarian aid shipments from France weighing about 240 tonnes, including 141 generators and other necessary power equipment.
German Galushchenko noted that the enemy was preparing to attack the Ukrainian energy sector again next winter. In preparation for the heating season, repairs are underway at damaged facilities, measures are being taken to increase generation capacity, and physical protection of energy facilities is being strengthened.
The Minister emphasized that distributed generation would play an important role in balancing and flexibility of the system next winter. Therefore, Ukraine is taking measures to decentralize electricity generation by increasing the capacity of renewable energy sources and gas turbines.
He emphasized that the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2050 prioritizes the development of nuclear generation, renewable energy and carbon-free technologies, which will be implemented in the process of restoring and rebuilding the energy sector. And Ukraine is interested in deepening cooperation with France in the relevant sectors.
The Ministry of Energy also noted the similarity of the Ukrainian and French energy systems, which opens up additional opportunities for cooperation, in particular in the field of expert assessment.
German Galushchenko also emphasized the importance of implementing the agreements already reached between the parties to restore the Ukrainian energy sector. Pursuant to the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the Minister of Energy with the French company EDF International Networks, work has already begun on the implementation of a pilot cooperation project - a plan for the development of modern electricity distribution networks.
The participants also discussed the situation at ZNPP and the threats posed by the russian occupation of Europe's largest nuclear power plant. German Galushchenko thanked France for its active participation in the discussion of the Peace Formula of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy within the Radiation and Nuclear Safety as well as Energy Security working groups.
