German Galushchenko and Laura Lochman discuss U.S. participation in the recovery and development of Ukraine’s energy sector

Within the framework of the international conference “Energy for the Recovery of Ukraine” held in Warsaw on the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine, met with Laura Lochman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Energy Resources, U.S. Department of State.

The Minister briefed the Department of State representative on the results of his recent visit to the United States and the meetings held, which focused on deepening cooperation in the energy sector, attracting U.S. investment in the restoration and development of the Ukrainian energy sector.

“Our cooperation with our American partners has made significant progress in the energy sector, especially in the nuclear industry. We are seeking to deepen cooperation with a focus on attracting U.S. investment in the development of modern technologies and their implementation in Ukraine. We have great prospects for deepening cooperation in the hydrogen industry, in the production of small modular reactors, in the development of wind and solar power, and in the gas sector,” said German Galushchenko.

The parties discussed the localisation of energy equipment production facilities in Ukraine and the creation of appropriate security conditions for their operation within clusters.

German Galushchenko spoke about the situation in the Ukrainian energy system and the consequences of russian attacks on the energy sector. He stressed the need to increase the volume of electricity imports to Ukraine from European countries in order to balance the system. The Minister also underlined the importance of decentralisation of power generation to ensure proper energy supply to the regions. Another topic of the meeting was gas storage. The parties highlighted the importance of European partners using the capacities of Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities to ensure energy security not only for Ukraine, but also for the entire continent.
