German Galushchenko discusses areas of cooperation with Ukraine with NEA Director-General

Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Director -General of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) William Magwood in Paris in the framework of the Roadmaps to New Nuclear Conference organised by the NEA.

German Galushchenko thanked the NEA for the NEA-Ukraine Visiting Experts Programme, which provides Ukrainian nuclear specialists with the opportunity to work together with NEA experts to exchange experience and expand cooperation in the field of nuclear technology, nuclear safety and regulation.

William Magwood, in turn, noted that NEA member states expressed their support for Ukraine and were willing to deepen cooperation for innovative development of the nuclear industry.

The NEA has identified areas for expanding cooperation between Ukraine and the Agency, in which the invited experts will work. These include small modular reactors, radiation protection, radioactive waste management and nuclear safety.

German Galushchenko emphasised the interest of the Ukrainian side in active development of innovative technologies in the nuclear industry and briefed the NEA Director-General on the prospects for the development of small modular reactor production in Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Europe's largest nuclear power plant occupied by russia, and the need to ensure nuclear and radiation safety at the facility. The Minister of Energy invited NEA experts to develop a roadmap for the return of ZNPP to operation after its de-occupation.
