The enemy wanted to achieve a complete blackout of Ukraine with a massive attack on the energy sector. This was emphasised by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko on air of the Yedyni Novyny (United News) National Telethon.
"The attack of 22 March was the most massive in the history of attacks on the energy sector. The enemy used more than 150 different munitions simultaneously. This is a serious test for the power system. The purpose of this attack was to achieve a large-scale blackout in the country," the Minister said.
German Galushchenko said that the impact of the attack was felt by consumers in 12 regions. Kharkiv, Odesa and Khmelnytskyi regions were the most affected. Restoration works are ongoing, and critical infrastructure has been connected in all regions.
According to the Minister, the situation at the Dnipro HPP is currently difficult. The consequences of the attack are being mitigated, and the time required for restoration work will be assessed.
