German Galushchenko: Synchronisation with ENTSO-E has buttressed both Ukraine and Europe
Ukraine will continue to develop interconnectors and increase interstate connections with European countries to boost electricity imports and exports.
This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko on his Facebook page on the second anniversary of the synchronisation of the Ukrainian power system with the European ENTSO-E.
"The disconnection from the power grid of russia and belarus, 21 days of isolated operation, the enemy's seizure of energy facilities and constant attacks - all this challenged us. But the Ukrainian power system withstood. We proved its resilience and joined the continental ENTSO-E on 16 March 2022," he reminded.
The Minister thanked Ukraine's international partners for their support in those difficult times and particularly noted the efforts of European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, who had been tirelessly supporting Ukraine on its path to joining the European family and integrating our energy markets.
"Synchronisation with the European grid has enhanced both Ukraine and Europe. The ability to import electricity from partner countries allowed us to keep the energy system in place during targeted enemy attacks. At the same time, Ukrainian electricity enabled our European partners to reduce their dependence on russian energy resources. Already in the summer of 2022, we started exporting electricity to our European neighbours," the Minister of Energy stressed.
German Galushchenko reminded that the current capacity of interconnectors allowed Ukraine to export up to 550 MW and import up to 1,700 MW.
"There is still a lot of work to be done: the development of interconnectors and further increase of interconnectors. But there is no doubt: Ukraine is an integral part of the European family, Ukraine is a European energy hub!" the Minister concluded.
