Gender policy, family support, and demographic stability: Liudmyla Shemelynets held meetings on the sidelines of CSW
The 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is underway in New York with the participation of the Ukrainian delegation. First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine Liudmyla Shemelynets has already held a series of high-level meetings and joined international discussions on women's participation in decision-making, combating violence, and supporting families and children affected by war.
During a round table on expanding women's participation in all decision-making systems through the implementation of General Recommendation No. 40 of the CEDAW Committee, Liudmyla Shemelynets emphasized that Ukraine considers equality between women and men to be one of the key priorities of state policy in the field of human rights.
"The equal participation of women and men in all spheres of life is the foundation of economic stability, strong state institutions, and, ultimately, peace. Even in the context of full-scale war, Ukraine continues to implement systemic policies in the field of gender equality. A combination of legislative changes, strategic communication, and active cooperation with civil society and international partners is important for achieving real change," said Liudmyla Shemelynets.
First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity also met with German Federal Minister of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth Karin Pring. The parties discussed issues of gender and demographic policy.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the topic of supporting Ukrainian children affected by the war. The parties also discussed the development of a mental health support system for adults and children and the work of Resilience Centers in communities.
In addition, they discussed active longevity policies and support for older citizens. German partners expressed their willingness to share their own programs.
“It is extremely important for Ukraine to strengthen international partnerships in social policy – from mental health support to the development of active longevity policies. The exchange of experience and practical solutions helps us to build a sustainable support system,” emphasized Liudmyla Shemelynets.
It should be noted that the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) is currently underway in New York. This is one of the most important international platforms for promoting gender equality and empowering women around the world.
