  • Head of SAEE and representatives of UNDP and GIZ discuss prospects for launching energy monitoring platform in Ukraine

The necessity and ways of implementing the National Energy Monitoring Platform in Ukraine was a key topic of the round table held at the initiative of the  State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving (SAEE). The meeting was attended by representatives of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), GIZ and the expert community.

Head of SAEE Serhii Savchuk stressed the need for operational and comprehensive verification of the quality of implementation of energy-efficient measures.

The most effective way for the above-mentioned verification is to introduce energy management / energy monitoring systems in the local and central governments, enterprises, residential sectors that are planned to be integrated into the National Energy Monitoring Platform.

The work is already underway is this direction due to the Action plan to implement energy management systems in state institutions that was shaped by SAEE and adopted by the Government in 2017.

"Thus, over the past 2 years, the number of local authorities where energy management / energy monitoring is being implemented has increased threefold: from 60 in 2017 to more than 200 in 2019. Energy management allows cities to save from 5% to 15% of energy each year ", Serhii Savchuk said.

The introduction of the abovemention platform will have a number of undeniable advantages, in particular, verification of energy-efficient measures implemented under ESCO-agreements, "warm loans", etc., open data on the energy consumption of potential ESCO-objects, benchmarking (comparison) of energy consumption by typical buildings of different regions.

Moreover, the parties agreed to combine their efforts and develop a roadmap of concrete actions for the implementation of the National Energy Monitoring Platform.
