During an interview with the KyivPost, the Chairman of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine Serhii Savchuk told about the development of the energy efficiency sector as an important component of the country's energy security.
In particular, the Chairman named the key introduced as well as existing energy efficiency mechanisms:
- the in-demand launched by the Government Warm Loans Program, from which about 650,000 Ukrainian families have benefited (and, in fact, it is the population of the entire region), thereby allowing to implement energy-efficient measures and save by over 50% on power consumption over 5 years;
- the ESCO mechanism, through which more than 330 energy service contracts worth over UAH 430 million have been concluded for the modernization of budgetary institutions. Energy savings range from 15% to 70%.
Meanwhile, The Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, together with the UNDP energy services project, is working to improve legislation in this area and increase the institutional capacity of local authorities to leverage ESCO investments.
GIZ provides significant support to Ukraine in the development of energy efficiency, engaging in close cooperation with local communities, municipalities, hospitals and industrial companies.
