The first turn of the reconstructed complex of the Okhmatdyt Children's Clinical Hospital received a certificate of readiness and is poised to accept patients with serious diseases. This was announced by  Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, while inspecting the facilities of the renovated hospital complex.

"Several years ago there was a ruin here. Thousands of children could not receive treatment and undergo screening. I promised to put into operation the first phase of the complex. Today the opening  of the reconstructed hospital took place. There are a modern equipment, a good team and high level specialists. My goal is to help children. The first turn of the complex is fully equipped, the second will be put into operation by the end of 2019 ", the Head of Government stressed.

The Prime Minister examined diagnostic centers of the hospital and talked to the medical staff, especially to young specialists  who are just at the beginning of their careers.

"It's very good that there are such young professionals aged 23-24  who give all commitment to the work at this hospital. At present, we are working on increasing the salaries of doctors", Volodymyr Groysman stated.

    Background

The foundation for the construction of a new medical-diagnostic complex of the Okhmatdyt Children's Clinical Hospital had been laid in 2011, but in 2013 all construction activities were suspended. In 2016, with the support of the Government of Volodymyr Groysman the construction activities were resumed. The project documentation was updated, as well as the inventory of equipment which has been stored mostly in basements was made. Pursuant to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the project was divided into two phases : the first phase covers 23.5 thousand square meters, the second - 43.5 thousand square meters respectively. In December 2017, the first turn of the  complex received all the necessary certificates of readiness . In January-April 2018 an equipment was installed . A medical linear accelerator and a computed  tomography started to work.

The first turn of "OKHMATDYT" facilities is, first and foremost, the diagnostic departments which can technologically function during the continuation of construction work of the second phase of the construction. Radiotherapy departments, magnetic resonance office, ultrasound diagnostic department, blood center, reference center for clinical laboratory diagnostics and metrology are ready to receive patients.

The construction of the second  phase will be kicked off this year. The complex will consist of 40 department , including the center for pediatric hematology, oncology and bone marrow transplantation, department as well as an extension of the bone marrow transplantation and  high-dose chemotherapy departments. The said step will allow to increase the number of bone marrow transplantation surgeries in 4 times and to do unrelated donor marrow transplantation surgeries. At present, this kind of transplantation is of critical importance for Ukraine, because such surgeries  could be done only abroad.

According to the plan, the second turn of the complex will consist of oncology and dose-intensive chemotherapy  departments, equipped with 20 beds for complex treatment of oncological diseases and an emergency medicine center for 450 patients per day. The number of surgeries could double.
