Following the URC 2024 International Conference in Berlin, Germany will make a new contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in the amount of EUR 50 million. This will bring the country's total contribution to the Fund to over EUR 275 million. This is the largest contribution by a sponsor to the Fund, which has accumulated more than EUR 545 million to date.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, thanked German partners, in particular German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, for the constant support provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion.
"This assistance is extremely important for us. The funds are used to purchase energy equipment, which russia is destroying with its regular attacks on our facilities," he said.
Since March 2022, Ukraine has received 120 shipments of humanitarian aid for the energy sector from Germany with a total weight of over 1,670 tonnes, including transformers, generators, cable, overhead line fittings and other equipment needed for restoration work.
As a reminder, the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine was established at the joint initiative of German Galushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson in spring 2022. Over the past few weeks, Australia, the United Kingdom, Austria, Sweden, Iceland, and Estonia have also contributed funds or declared their intentions to contribute to the Fund.
