Energy resilience and logistics support: Mykola Kalashnyk meets with Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Carlo Formosa

Minister for Recovery, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk held his first meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Ukraine Carlo Formosa.

The parties discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation, including logistics security amid large-scale attacks, preparations for the heating season and the implementation of infrastructure projects.

“We greatly value the strong and comprehensive support provided by the Italian Government amid the aggressor’s daily attacks. Assistance from our Italian partners is critical, particularly in strengthening the energy resilience of local communities, preparing for the heating season and supplying essential equipment.

At the same time, we are ready to move quickly to implement joint initiatives with our partners by modernising the railway, protecting ports and rebuilding the regions,” Mykola Kalashnyk said.

The Minister briefed the Italian side on the consequences of recent enemy attacks on railway infrastructure and road border crossings. russian attacks have made it necessary to take swift decisions on organising passenger and freight transport in high-risk conditions.

Particular attention was given to energy resilience. The Ukrainian side thanked the Italian Government for its substantial humanitarian and technical assistance to Ukrainian communities in the area of heat supply.

Ukraine has already received 336 industrial boilers with a combined capacity of 745 MW and is expecting a further 268 units with a combined capacity of 580 MW. The parties agreed to distribute and install the equipment promptly before the heating season begins.

Support for the transport sector was also discussed, including a grant to modernise the railway and a new joint financing package to purchase critical equipment for transport and healthcare.

Mykola Kalashnyk also invited the Italian partners to contribute to the Ukraine Transport Support Fund (UTSF).

The parties also focused on port protection and environmental safety, including technical equipment for the Port of Odesa, the purchase of oil-spill response equipment and the development of environmental monitoring projects.

Finally, they agreed to accelerate regional projects in Odesa region, including the restoration of the historic centre and completion of a children’s hospital.
