On Monday, June 24, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba attended a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, expressed gratitude for the approval of the Negotiating Framework and emphasized that Ukraine’s membership will strengthen the EU and guarantee security and prosperity for all Europeans.

“Ukraine is already part of the European family. Our country is an opportunity and added value for the EU. As a member of the EU, Ukraine will make a significant contribution to common defense, foreign policy, green transition, digitalization, economic development, and other areas,” the Minister said.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that in order to protect its people and the European continent, Ukraine needs more Patriot and SAMP/T air defense systems, as well as a constant supply of air defense missiles, artillery systems and shells, long-range missiles, drones, and electronic warfare systems.

According to him, the provision of additional weapons and support for Ukraine’s use of Western weapons on russian territory were essential to stabilizing the situation in the Kharkiv region.

“The recent events in Kharkiv region once again demonstrate that Ukrainians are capable of winning if they have the necessary means. Ukraine still needs more air defense systems, particularly Patriots. We must ensure that russian aircraft cannot fly to the distance required to use gliding bombs,” he said.

Dmytro Kuleba also emphasized the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on russia in order to limit the financing of the kremlin’s military machine.

The Minister thanked the EU member states for their significant role in organizing the Global Peace Summit and called for their further active participation in the implementation of the Peace Formula.

“Our joint efforts have brought together more than 100 delegations from all continents and parts of the world. So far, 87 countries and international organizations have signed the Joint Communiqué, which remains open for signature. We are actively working together with our European colleagues to bring new countries to join the communiqué,” said Dmytro Kuleba.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that Ukraine expects to sign a security agreement with the EU in the near future.

“Ensuring a just and lasting peace for Ukraine will guarantee Europe’s long-term security and adherence to international law,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister concluded.
