On June 3, Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Republic of Maldives held their first telephone conversation in the history of bilateral relations between the two states.
The top diplomats paid special attention to bilateral cooperation within international organizations, including the UN. Dmytro Kuleba expressed his gratitude to the Maldives for supporting the UNGA resolution "The problem of the militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as parts of the Black and Azov Seas".
Dmytro Kuleba and Abdulla Shahid also discussed other promising areas of cooperation, including improvement of bilateral air service logistics, expanding Ukrainian exports, engaging Ukrainian companies in developing tourist infrastructure in the Maldives, and cooperation on personnel training. Abdulla Shahid expressed his appreciation of the quality of education that Maldivian students receive in Ukrainian universities. Dmytro Kuleba affirmed Ukraine’s willingness to increase their numbers.
Parties agreed to intensify dialogue in key spheres of cooperation.
