On December 8, 2022, the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre became an associate member of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The relevant agreement to this effect was signed on December 6, 2022 by Acting Head of the StateGeoCadastre Serhii Zavadskyi. The membership of the StateGeoCadastre in the OGC will last for one year (with the possibility of extension), and Deputy Head of the StateGeoCadastre Dmytro Makarenko was appointed a representative in the Technical Committee of the OGC.
Membership in OGC will provide access to the best international practices in the development of standards and services in the field of geospatial information for further development of national geospatial data infrastructure in Ukraine. It will also facilitate the exchange of experience and knowledge to improve the national geoportal. Notably, 20 OGC standards were used to develop the terms of reference for the national geospatial data portal.
OGC is an international non-profit organization that develops standards for geospatial data and services. The organization represents more than 500 enterprises, government agencies, research organizations and universities from around the world.
Among the members of OGC are NASA, Amazon, TRIMBL, GOOGLE, Microsoft, MAXAR, BlackShark, ESA, Apple, Airbus, Esri, Ordance Survey (UK), BKG (Germany), Kadaster (Netherlands), Statens Kartverk (Norway), and Natural Resources Canada.
It was the Natural Resources Canada, one of the strategic members of the OGC, that proposed to grant the StateGeoCadastre free membership for a period of one year.
