  • State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision: Saving electricity during peak hours of the power system is critical
State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision of Ukraine, posted 23 April 2024 08:57

More economical electricity consumption during peak hours will reduce the load on the power system and allow the country to avoid blackouts. Electricity consumption restrictions are currently applied only in Kharkiv and Kryvyi Rih, which have suffered the most from recent massive enemy drone attacks. Ruslan Slobodian, Head of the State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision of Ukraine, said this on the air of the Yedyni Novyny (United News) national telethon.

According to him, despite the difficult situation, Ukraine's power system is operating stably. At certain hours, there is a shortage of electricity, which is compensated for by imports from the EU. At the same time, economical electricity consumption at certain hours of the day remains a priority. Namely, during the morning and evening peaks of load on the power system - from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00.

"It is not about refusing to consume electricity, but about its more economical and prudent use. In particular, it means shifting the use of energy-consuming appliances, such as a boiler or washing machine, from peak hours to other time periods during the day, switching off the lights in rooms where no one is present, etc." he stressed.

The head of the State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision noted that since a significant part of the shunting generation that balanced the power during these hours was damaged as a result of the shelling, electricity has to be imported from the EU. Ruslan Slobodian called on households and businesses to consume electricity more economically and prudently.
