In August 2020, the total state and state-guaranteed debt of Ukraine in national currency equivalent decreased by UAH 16.9 billion and amounted to UAH 2,338.18 billion (USD 85.1 billion in foreign currency equivalent). State debt amounted to UAH 2,060.74 billion, having decreased by UAH 11.8 billion mainly due to a reduction in debt on domestic government bonds (DGB). The State Guaranteed Debt decreased by UAH 5.1 billion, mainly due to a reduction in debt to the International Monetary Fund.
During August, the Ministry of Finance held 4 auctions to place DGBs, raising UAH 23.4 billion to finance the state budget, of which USD 250.5 million was raised in foreign currency.
Expenditures on public debt repayment in August 2020 amounted to UAH 38.7 billion, and expenditures on state debt service amounted to UAH 8.5 billion.
According to the results of the second quarter of 2020, the public debt to GDP ratio was 50.8%, while the state and state-guaranteed debt to GDP ratio was 57.6%.
