Denys Shmyhal and Carsten Schneider agreed to strengthen the Ukrainian-German energy partnership

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Germany’s Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Carsten Schneider during his visit to Kyiv.

Together with representatives of Ukrainian and German energy companies, they coordinated joint steps by Ukraine and Germany to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and deepen the strategic partnership.

Denys Shmyhal and Carsten Schneider discussed nuclear and radiation safety. The Minister of Energy thanked Germany for its attention to restoring the new safe confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant after the russian attack and expressed hope for Germany’s continued leadership, support, and expert assistance in this matter.

The First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy also noted that the meeting addressed possibilities for the rapid deployment of equipment for restoration, including from Germany’s strategic reserves.

“I am grateful to our German partners for their readiness to support the development of renewable energy in Ukraine, the deployment of energy storage systems, the supply of essential equipment, and training for Ukrainian specialists,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The meeting also touched upon the development of B2B partnerships between Ukrainian and German companies. Participants emphasized that this direction has significant potential. In addition, Ukraine sees Germany and German businesses as important partners in developing cooperation in the field of biomethane and integrating Ukrainian producers into the European market.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Germany for its systematic support of Ukraine.

“Germany has already delivered 348 humanitarian shipments to Ukraine — more than 3,600 tonnes of critical equipment. The country’s contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund exceeds €500 million. We highly value this assistance and look forward to further deepening our cooperation,” emphasized the Minister of Energy.
