Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting in Donetsk region to discuss topical issues of the region and areas of support. The event included government officials and the head of the regional military administration (RMA).
An important topic raised was the issue of fortifications and the needs of the military. Officials considered the possibility of using wood from the region's fire-affected forests for defense purposes.
"The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources is preparing relevant decisions. Also, at the proposal of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, a mechanism is being developed to compensate farmers for the land on which the fortifications are located. russia should compensate for these losses. He instructed to assess the possibility of adding the relevant item to the register of losses. Also, following the results of communication with the RMA and the military, I gave the necessary orders to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry for Strategic Industries," said Denys Shmyhal.
The meeting's participants also focused on the supply of frontline hospitals, in particular, information on the availability of medicines and medical personnel was presented. The Ministry of Health is cooperating with the RMA on this issue to meet the essential needs of people. The Prime Minister noted that last year shelters had been built and equipped in three medical institutions in the region.
"During the war, medical equipment worth more than UAH 110 million was supplied to healthcare institutions in Donetsk region. A separate subvention of more than UAH 20 million was disbursed for the blood transfusion station in Kramatorsk, as this is what is directly saving lives today," he emphasized.
In addition, the participants of the meeting discussed the reconstruction of housing. Denys Shmyhal emphasized that according to World Bank estimates, Donetsk region is the most affected region due to the war and the need for reconstruction is almost USD 78 billion. The Prime Minister said that since the start of the year, the Government had allocated UAH 3.6 billion for projects of rapid reconstruction and development of the Donetsk region.
Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, Minister for Communities and Territories Development, provided information on the situation with housing.
"The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development is preparing decisions in two areas. In particular, the procedure for inspecting property in the territories located in the area of active hostilities and in the temporarily occupied territories will be simplified. With regard to compensation for housing in the occupied territories, we have submitted relevant amendments to the Verkhovna Rada," the Head of Government noted. He expressed hope that during the visit to the Recovery Conference in Rome a number of agreements would be signed to attract the necessary financial resources, in particular to compensate for the lost housing for the military and their families, persons with disabilities, large families and other vulnerable groups.
"The frontline regions that face the greatest number of challenges remain a priority for us. I am grateful to every defender who is holding back the enemy today. I am grateful to everyone who stays and works in Donetsk region despite all the difficulties, shelling and russian terror," emphasized Denys Shmyhal.
