First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine/Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held his fourth meeting with representatives of the gas generation industry, during which they discussed necessary steps and solutions already implemented to ensure the sector’s stable and economically sound operation.

As Denys Shmyhal noted, among the results already achieved are:

1. There has been simplified connection of new generation capacity to the grid: The NEURC has shortened connection timelines, reduced the number of required documents, introduced temporary connection mechanisms, and extended the validity of simplified procedures until 2027. Currently, approximately 204 MW of capacity has been connected under the new mechanisms.

2. Gas distribution fees have been abolished for facilities that have sustained military damage and cannot operate.

3. The penalty coefficient for exceeding contracted gas capacity has been abolished until the end of 2026 for electricity producers operating in the balancing market.

4. Procedures for approving the placement of equipment in the security zones of main gas pipelines have been unblocked. A standing commission has been formed to consider relevant issues, thereby significantly accelerating the launch of new gas turbine and gas piston units.

5. Procedures for the construction and restoration of protective structures at energy facilities have been simplified. The changes allow such work to be carried out on a project-build basis: in parallel with the development of project documentation and without waiting for all permitting procedures to be completed.

“We continue to systematically remove barriers that hinder the development of distributed generation and create transparent economic conditions for business development in this sector,” emphasized the Minister of Energy.
