During a working trip to the Chernivtsi region on August 17, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal took part in the launch ceremony of the D4 Dniester PSP hydroelectric unit in generator mode. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Yulia Svyridenko, Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, Chairman of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission Valeriy Tarasiuk, Head of VRU Committee on Energy, Housing and Utility Services Andriy Gerus, Director General of Direction for the Construction of Dniester PSPS of PJSC Ukrhydroenergo Vasyl Subota.
Denys Shmyhal noted that the construction of the Dniester PSPS is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the history of modern Ukraine, and the launch of the 4th generator is an extremely important event for Ukraine's energy security.
"According to the project, the plant will consist of 7 hydraulic units with a total capacity of 2268 MW, which puts it in first place in Europe and sixth in the world. The cost of the №4 unit construction project alone is over UAH 7 billion. It is also an additional 324 MW of valuable balancing and maneuvering capacity, which is so necessary for our energy system in the process of integration into the European energy system ENTSO-E," said the Prime Minister.
Denys Shmyhal also stressed that the implementation of this project had allowed to support Ukrainian industry, as 80% of the equipment had been manufactured in Ukraine. In particular, orders were received by Ukrainian plants Turboatom and Elektrovazhmash, manufacturers of transformer equipment, metal structures, cable products and other Ukrainian industrial enterprises. In addition, about 1,000 builders and installers worked on the construction site during the construction, as well as the staff of the Dniester PSPS is more than 430 people.
