During a working trip to Donetsk region on October 27, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal inspected the progress of the overhaul of the second Donetsk water supply system in Slovyansky district.
The Head of Government stressed that the quality of drinking water in Ukraine needs to be improved, so in April this year the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Concept of the National Target Program "Drinking Water of Ukraine".
"We have laid down a sum worth UAH 1 billion in the state budget for the Drinking Water of Ukraine program. A significant percentage of centralized water supply systems in the regions are outdated, which has a negative impact on water quality. The situation needs to be changed in order to provide community residents with sufficient quality of drinking water," Denys Shmyhal stressed.
Repair work on the second Donetsk water pipeline is expected to be completed in April 2022. This will improve the quality of centralized drinking water supply services to the population of Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka and other settlements of Slovyansk and Kostiantyniv districts.
A sum to the tune of UAH 102.2 million was allocated from the State Fund for Regional Development for the repair of the water supply section in 2020 and UAH 71.8 million in 2021. In addition, UAH 11.3 million was allocated from the regional budget for this project in 2020 and UAH 7.9 million this year.
