Denys Shmyhal: Among the key steps is the recognition of Russia as a state sponsoring terrorism

Ukraine will initiate the imposition of sanctions against all public figures involved in the voting, support and waging of Russia's war against our state. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during an online meeting with the heads of government of Poland and Lithuania on March 14.

In a conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonyte in the format of the Lublin Triangle, Denys Shmyhal discussed further steps to terminate the war.

"A rather critical stage of the sanctions policy is the imposition of punitive sanctions on public and political figures in Russia. Many people voted for and supported this aggression and barbaric war. All their assets must be frozen," the Head of the Government of Ukraine stressed.

According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, among the essential steps to be taken are recognizing Russia as a state sponsoring terrorism and abolishing visas for Russian citizens.

"We will appeal to all countries and responsible businesses to stop financing Russia's budget, being the source for the occupier of paying for the purchase of weapons, paying salaries to barbarians who kill children, women, who starve the entire cities, who commit terrible war crimes," said the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine would also appeal to its partners with a request to close seaports for Russian ships and ban European vessels from entering Russian ports.

"It is critical to freeze all foreign currency correspondent accounts with banks. It is important to continue sanctions against Sberbank in the first place, to prolong imposition of sanctions against the banking system and to remove banks from the SWIFT system," the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed.

According to the Head of the Ukrainian government, an embargo on all Russian resources: crude oil, gas, minerals, metals, etc. should be an essential step as well.
