Despite the threats and challenges faced by the country as a result of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government continues to implement projects aimed at improving the quality of life of Ukrainian citizens.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced in his address to the participants of a conference call on Tuesday, April 28, summoned to tackle the intensification of works on the implementation of the Great Construction project initiated jointly by the President of Ukraine and the Government.
The Head of Government stressed that the implementation of this program would become one of the components of economic recovery in the context of quarantine exit, since investments in construction activities have a strong multiplier effect on other sectors.
"Great Construction is the basis of a message laid down by the President and the Government about creating a large number of jobs. We expect that large-scale road construction, where we will invest more than UAH 100 billion this year, will allow us to create additional 170,000 jobs and even more. A Great Construction project, energy efficiency, more than 210 emergency departments - and in general the development of the construction spheres - are several hundred thousand additional workplaces," said the Head of Government.
In addition, according to the Prime Minister, the implementation of the presidential program "100 schools, 100 kindergartens, 100 stadiums" is underway.
"The construction of modern schools, kindergartens and stadiums is not just construction projects, but also investments in improving the quality of education and access to sports infrastructure," stressed the Head of Government.
Denys Shmyhal instructed the heads of regional state administrations (RSA), the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and the Ministry of Finance to approve, by May 5, specified lists of objects to be financed from the SRDF (State Regional Development Fund) at meetings of regional commissions and to submit for approval to the Government by May 11 as well as to ensure their implementation.
In addition, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and the Ministry of Finance are commissioned with concentrating resources on social and economic development subventions on new construction, reconstruction projects, and improving the quality of healthcare services and more.
According to the Prime Minister, currently another critical objective faced by the Government - the creation of modern Emergency Departments where citizens will be able to obtain high-quality medical services in 210 hub hospitals within the framework of the Great Construction project.
"This task has become even more urgent as 97 institutions (out of 210) have been included in the first wave of institutions engaged in COVID-19 battle," Denys Shmyhal said and instructed the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health to work out financial instruments and sources to ensure the implementation of the project.
The PM stressed that one-third of all funds from the program should get to the regions as early as May.
