On November 9, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal opened the Forum "Large Construction: A New Railway".
During the event, the Head of State announced the start of a new project - the construction of a new Ukrainian railway.
"In my opinion, the important thing is that cooperation with a key national enterprise in the field of car building - the Kryukov Works - has been resumed. New diesel trains are presented at this event. Three will be received by UZ by the end of the year. Another 20 will be ordered in 2022-2023. Also this year, UZ will receive 20 new sleeping cars - the first batch of the announced one hundred. We plan to build another 500 of them in the next 2 years. These are modern Ukrainian compartment cars, for which, really, we are not ashamed," the President of Ukraine emphasized.
For his part, the Prime Minister noted that the project of a new railway in Ukraine is aimed at creating jobs, filling the budget, providing comfort and safety of people during passenger transportation.
"These are important changes, and they are not just about rolling stock. This implies changing approaches to infrastructure development. In Ukraine, most of the railways have not been electrified in 30 years. A few months ago in Cherkasy, together with the Minister of Infrastructure and the Deputy Head of the President's Office, we launched a project to electrify the railway from Cherkasy to Taras Shevchenko station. This will open an opportunity for residents of the regional center to travel around Ukraine faster, more comfortably, safer," stressed Denys Shmyhal.
According to the Prime Minister, the same electrification project has been launched from Zhytomyr to Novohrad-Volynskyy, as well as at four other sites. The works are planned to complete during the current and next years.
"It's all about qualitative changes for the lives of Ukrainians. And I am convinced that thanks to the initiative of the President of Ukraine, thanks to the work of the Government team and the Ministry of Infrastructure, we will feel and observe these changes next year," the Prime Minister stressed.
