Update on the situation in the energy sector as of 12:00 February 27
Ihor Syrota, COE of UKRHIDROENERGO, Ukraine’s major hydropower generating company, quashes the rumours about blasting of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant and assures of the company’s preparedness to face and deal with any scenario.
The Ukrainian Gas Transmission System (GTS) Operator does not confirm the wrecking of the major gas pipeline in Kharkiv. The system has not registered any drop of pressure and the gas transmission continues as normal. Despite an exceptionally difficult situation due to the ongoing active hostilities, its employees on the ground perform their duties and provide for the transmission of gas.
Ukraine’s power grid will not return to synchronous operation with the networks of Russia and Belarus.
During these three days, 24-26 February, the autonomous performance of the Ukrainian power grid proved to be a success, having demonstrated high degree of reliability and capability to operate in the isolated mode. However, under present circumstances we can hardly expect any degree of security and reliability for the Ukrainian consumers if our power grid continues to operate in a synchronous mode with the grid of the belligerent state.
Therefore, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy issued an order to reject connection to the power grid of Russia and Belarus. Minister Herman Haluschenko announced that Ukraine is going to appeal to the European counterparts requesting accelerated synchronization with ENTSO-E.
UkrGasVydobuvannia, the largest Ukrainian gas producer, continues gas extraction at all its sites, except those located in close proximity to the contact line.
Naftogas Trading continues to deliver natural gas to its consumers, with daily supply volumes close to 70 million cubic meters. Its dispatchers work 24/7 to process and deliver on consumer orders. The available gas volumes are sufficient to meet the needs of national economy. However, the company underscores the necessity of prudent consumption behaviour due to Russia’s military aggression and related risks of deteriorating price situation in the European gas market.
All services and units of Naftogas Trading continue to operate as normal.
The Ukrainian GTS Operator maintains its work in all regions across Ukraine providing gas transmission to consumers. In the areas of active hostilities, we are promptly making necessary operational adjustments to reduce the risk of breakages and emergency situations along the main pipelines. There has been no critical damage of the infrastructure.
The Operator is providing gas for continued operation of critical infrastructure. There are no casualties or wounded among its employees who continue to heroically perform their work under the overwhelmingly difficult circumstances.
According to the Ministry of Energy, UkrEnergo, Naftogas Ukraine, Ukrainian GTS Operator.
