Volodymyr Groysman assures in 2018 Gov't to focus on improvement of road safety
Launched by
the Government large-scale construction of the road infrastructure has
significantly increased the logistical capabilities of Ukraine, but at the same
time unpacked road safety problems. And for that very reason, the following
year, the Government will focus both on the development of road network and the
improvement of the safety of traffic. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman pledged during
a meeting with regional media outlets.
He reminded
that by the end of year, the Government planned to approve a Road
Infrastructure Development Strategy, and in the following year to embark on the
implementation of this plan. Meanwhile, in 2018, the total budget for road
construction activities will amount to UAH 46.7 billion which is an
unprecedented sum.
"Throughout
3-5 years we will have roads of new quality," stressed Volodymyr
Groysman, "But we are facing a challenge. We are
building roads, and certain people are inclined to violate basic rules of road
safety, not to mention the traffic rules. Therefore, we will spend resources to
improve safety – to erect bridges above highways, to install lighting, to introduce
measures to reduce speed - we will focus on this issue", highlighted
Volodymyr Groysman.
Background
As a result
of the yearly activities, a network of over 2 thousand kilometers of roads will
be reconstructed and built in Ukraine, which is threefold higher against the
last year. The Prime Minister emphasized, in the future, the scale of road
construction will grow. Already in March - with the onset of the construction
season - work in this sector will resume. Among the topmost priorities for the
Government is the construction of the Go Highway corridor connecting the Baltic
