The policy pursued
by the Government
of Ukraine on becoming energy
independent state envisages an increase
in the volume
of own gas
production to 20 billion cubic meters
by 2020. This was stated by
Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr
Groysman. The Head of Government
is on a working
visit in Poltava region, where he has
visited several wells of the
SE Ukrgazvydobuvannya.
"According to this year’s
results, we increased production to 15.2 billion cubic meters, and
we set the
task to reach
20 billion cubic meters by 2020", the Prime Minister
stressed.
He placed an
emphasis on the fact that
energy independence will not only
allow to eliminate import of fuel that
was used as an instrument
of pressure on Ukraine, but
also will allow to reduce gas prices
within the state.
"Ukraine will
be energy independent and citizens will have
an access to cheap gas,"
the Head of Government underscored.
Background
The Concept of
development of gas production industry of Ukraine
envisages an annual increase in domestic gas
production with the possibility of exporting energy
resources in the medium term.
According to scientists,
Ukraine has 276 billion cubic meters
of confirmed gas reserves (140 gas fields). The
total potential of gas fields
is three times higher - 923 billion cubic meters.
Over the past decades, Ukraine
has only reduced the volume
of its own
gas production, including through a series of political
decisions. The positive dynamics of gas production
was recorded in 2016. The total
production of gas amounted to
14.6 billion cubic meters last year.
