The implementation of the recently adopted National Waste Management Strategy requires apart from the support of citizens the adoption of new bills. Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Ostap Semerak stated during A Question Time at the Verkhovna Rada.

He recalled that the transition to a model of a closed-loop economy is one of Ukraine's obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU.

"If we talk about the field of waste management, it concerns technological modernization, change in the mentality of citizens and the abandoning of consumer attitude to natural resources. The essential idea of the Strategy is the European principle of preventing the generation of waste and only as a final response, waste should be disposed of by incineration," said Ostap Semerak.
