Volodymyr Kistion: The Government expresses gratitude to the European Commission for assistance in reforming the gas market
Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion met with Director of Energy Market of the Directorate General of the European Commission for Energy Klaus-Dieter Borchardt. The parties discussed the work fulfilled by Ukraine in the framework of the implementation of the Third Energy Package, in particular in the energy sector.
"The Government of Ukraine abides by the assumed obligations to the European Union and demonstrates consistency in the implementation of the agreements set forth in the Treaty establishing the Energy Community and the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU," Volodymyr Kistion emphasized during the meeting.
The Vice Prime Minister noted that the reform of the energy
sector of Ukraine proves to be one of the essential, and at that, the most complex.
Its main objective is demonopolization and shaping of transparent market
relations. "Presently, we engage in work on further liberalization of the
natural gas market and creation of conditions for the functioning of an independent
operator of the gas transport system of Ukraine. We are grateful to the
European Commission for understanding and support on this difficult path,
"stressed Volodymyr Kistion.
In turn,
Klaus-Dieter Borchardt commended the measures taken
by Ukraine in the framework of the implementation of the Third Energy Package
of the EU and assessed outlined by the Vice Prime Minister further actions of
the Government in pursuing the reform of the state gas sector.
"We shall
not tell Ukraine what to do and what not to do. Our target is to work in
synergy to elaborate those solutions that are the best for the state of Ukraine
and its citizens," said the Director of Energy Market of the
Directorate General of the European Commission for Energy.
