October 9, Stepan Kubiv,
First Vice Prime Minister/ Minister of Economic
Development and Trade of Ukraine
met with Nihat Zeybekci, Minister of Economy
of the Republic
of Turkey. The meeting was
held in the
framework of the high-level visit of President
of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Ukraine. The parties
discussed bilateral trade and economic
cooperation, inter alia the intensification
of the negotiation
process on the conclusion of the Free
Trade Agreement.
«Relations between
Turkey and Ukraine gained the status of
strategic. Turkey is among the
15 biggest importing countries in the
world. We need to increase
trade turnover between our countries
and to strengthen
our economic ties. To this
end, we have
agreed to hold another round
of negotiations on FTA between our countries during
the month», Stepan Kubiv underlined.
In 2016, as a consumer
of the Ukrainian
export goods Turkey ranked 4 place. Ukraine’s export of goods
to Turkey continues to show
a tendency towards increase. For the
first seven months of 2017 it amounted to
$ 1.4 billion and increased by 18 % in comparison with
the same period of 2016.
«Turkey is
a country determined by the Export Strategy of Ukraine as
a focus one for Ukrainian exports.
Therefore, we are engaged in
activities aimed to eliminate the
barriers in the Turkish market,
to simplify trade procedures and to strengthen
business-to-business contacts in
order to increase the number
of export contracts. There are also prospects
for progress in the negotiation
process regarding the conclusion of the FTA with
Turkey. All sectors of the
economy, including agriculture should be enshrined in
the said agreement», emphasized Nataliya Mykolska, Deputy Minister
of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine/
Sales Representative of Ukraine.
Stepan Kubiv and
Nihat Zeybekci also signed an
Agreement on Mutual Assistance and Protection of Investments.
