On 3 October 2017, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Ojārs Ēriks Kalniņš and Chairperson of the European Affairs Committee of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Lolita Čigāne invited Charge d’Affaires a.i. Alisa Podolyak, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Latvia Teimuraz Janjalia and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Moldova to Latvia Eugen Revenco to discuss the preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels on 24 November 2017 and expectations thereof.

Members of the Latvian parliament articulated strong support for the Eastern Partnership initiative, having underscored that Latvia together with other Baltic countries, considers the initiative as an important element on EU agenda and will exert every effort to boost it further as a priority.

Mr. Ojārs Ēriks Kalniņš referred to the Eastern Partnership initiative as a success story and commended the implementation of the Association Agreements by partner countries.

While stressing the importance of boosting cooperation between the EU and Eastern European countries on security and crisis management, the chief of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission called on EU more visible role in the resolution of the existing crises in Eastern Partnership and the need to elaborate joint actions with a view of countering disinformation campaigns by Kremlin and cybercrimes. 

The meeting was also attended by Ambassador of Estonia to Latvia Tõnis Nirk in his capacity of the presidency of the EU Council.
