Government to pursue the policy towards energy independence and demonopolization of the energy sector, assures Prime Minister
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, in the
framework of the commitment to follow a policy towards energy independence, advocates
the prompt and complete demonopolization of the energy sector and finalizing of
the unbundling process of the state energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy,
namely the separation of the company's gas transmission and storage (injection,
withdrawal) activities in compliance with requirements
of the Third Energy Package. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine
Volodymyr Groysman during the Government sitting.
"Our objective,
and I guarantee that reform process will prolong and intensify, is to transform
Naftogaz into an advanced and strong company following good corporate
governance principles. We need to abandon the situation when the Naftogaz is the
only monopoly gas operator in Ukraine," urged Volodymyr Groysman.
He emphasized that currently the formation of the
Naftogaz Supervisory Board members is underway in synergy with partners aimed to
attract qualified specialists to continue the reform and market
demonopolization process.
"Monopolies always
try to use their position to unreasonably raise prices. I assure you this will
never happen," said Volodymyr Groysman was quoted as saying.
